RESOLUTION N0. 58-99
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
AND ADOPTING A POLICY ON NETWORK AND PERSONAL
COMPUTER USAGE BY VILLAGE EMPLOYEES, WHICH
POLICY IS SET FORTH IN EXHIBIT "A" ATTACHED; AND,
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA:
Section 1 • The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida,
does hereby approve and adopt the policy on network and personal computer usage by
Village employees which is attached as Exhibit "A" to this resolution.
Section 2• The written policy on network and personal computer usage shall
be presented to all employees of the Village who access and utilize Village computers for
their reading and signature.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.

POLICY ON NETWORK AND PERSONAL COMPUTER USAGF.
• This information systems policy is an interim policy pending policy handbook completion by the of'tice of
Information Systems. Upon receiving this document, an employee of the Village is to sign, and date the document
indicating that they have read the policy and understand the terms. In tum this document is to be placed in the LS. bin
located in the Village Managers office.
Employees of the Village, are to adhere to the following list of rules that are set forth by the LS. Department in
order to prevent computer abuse, viral infection, infringement of software license agreements and/ or contracts or arty
other form of computer system misuse throughout the Village of North Palm Beach Computer Network:
• Software will only be installed on computers with the approval of the Village Manager or his designee.
• All software installed on PC's must be work related and accompanied by a valid software license or
original box or packaging it came in. No disks are to be put in the machines unless they are new and come
from an airtight or sealed disk package or box.
• No computer cases are to be opened or hardware or other peripherals added or taken out of the computer
system without the permission of the LS. Department.
• No one is allowed to login as any other employee's name unless the employee who possesses that name is
notified or knows about such login, and consents.
• No programs are to be added, deleted, erased, or uninstalled from your computer without permission of the
Village Manager or his designee.
• To prevent abuse of login, no one is allowed to login as her or himself on more than one machine without
first logeing off the other computer.
• The Information Systems Specialist should be notified immediately if a computer password is to be
changed.
WORLD WIDE WEB, EMAIL AND INTERNET USAGE POLICIES
• Employees of the Village will be allowed Intemet usage.
• No pornography, online stock trades, online auctions, gambling, online purchasing, private business use
and/or pirated software will be allowed by any computer user of The Village of North Palm Beach.
• 7'he Internet must be used only for Village related use.
• No file attachments larger than a megabyte in size are allowed to be sent or received via email. All
attachments will be virus scanned.
• All Departments must identify their own computer problem and/or the nature of the problem and submit it
to the I.S. Department.
• No Departments are allowed to repair or fix computer related problems themselves.
• The I.S. Specialist will analyze the problem and determine the next steps to take.
• Department heads must submit a request for computer repair in writing to the I.S. Department.
I have received, read, understand, and agree to adhere to this Policy on Network and Personal Computer usage.
I understand that a signed copy of this document will be filed in my personnel file and with the I.S. Department.
