1997-045 Opposes High Speed Rail System1
RESOLUTION NO. 45-97
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL
OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA, OPPOSING EXPENDITURES OF
PUBLIC MONIES FOR THE STUDY AND
DEVELOPMENT OF A HIGH SPEED RAIL
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM; AND,
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation is anticipating
the expenditure of 7.1 million taxpayer dollars toward the
preliminary Phase Work Program of the High Speed Rail
Transportation; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated cost of a High Speed Rail
Transportation System would exceed $6.0 billion dollars, and
WHEREAS, there are currently numerous problems with the
public transit systems, and
WHEREAS, public funding would be better spent to solve
the already existing problems in highways, bridges and public
transportation.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM

Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North
Palm Beach, Florida, does hereby oppose expenditures of public

Transportation System.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption.
