1997-002 Adopts Standard Building Code for State of FL• A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE AS THE CONSENSUS MODEL BUILDING CODE FOR THE STATE OF FLORIDA. RESOLUTION 02-97 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: WHEREAS, at least four sets of building codes are currently being utilized by local governmental entities in the State of Florida, which creates confusion and a lack of uniformity in building regulations, and WHEREAS, the Governor has commissioned a committee to study the feasibility of mandating a single set of building codes to be utilized by local governmental entities statewide, and WHEREAS, the development of a single set of consensus building codes has already been successfully implemented throughout the southeastern United Sates by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., and WHEREAS, the Standard Model Code consensus process allows the local Government • the ability to vote on proposed changes to the Code, and WHEREAS, to avoid confusion and to keep separation of code content, specialty codes, such as energy codes and codes relating to accessibility, need not be incorporated under a model code, and WHEREAS, the Standard Building Code consensus process has fifty (50) years of proven performance based on sound engineering from industry, private sector and governmental entities, and WHEREAS, the public will continue to be fully protected if the state mandates the adoption of the Standard Building Code as the Consensus Model Building Code; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida does hereby express its support for the adoption of the Standard Building Code, as published by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., as the Consensus Model Building Code for the State of Florida. • Section 2. That the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida encourages all other cities and county governments in the state to support this action. • Section 3. That the Village Manager is hereby directed to send copies to the Governor of the State of Florida, the Governor's Study Commission of Building Codes, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, the Building Officials Association of Florida, the Iuilding Officials Association of Palm Beach County, the Southern Building Code Congress of Birmingham, AL, and the Palm Beach County Municipal League.
