1992-06 Opposes Amdendment to County Charter-Commission as Countywide Planning Councilt RESOLUTION N0. 6-92
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FLORIDA, IN OPPOSITION TO ORDINANCE N0. 92-1
OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH
COUNTY, FLORIDA, WHICH AMENDS THE PALM BEACH
COUNTY CHARTER AND ESTABLISHES THE COUNTY COMMISSION
AS A COUNTYWIDE PLANNING COUNCIL WITH POWER TO
ESTABLISH GROWTH MANAGEMENT AND LAND USE THROUGHOUT
PALM BEACH COUNTY AND WHICH WOULD USURP THE POWER
OF THE VILliAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH TO DETERMINE ITS
OWN COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN; AND AUTHORIZING
AND DIRECTING THE VILLAGE MANAGER TO PUBLISH THIS
RESOLUTION TN FULL IN THE VILLAGE NEWSLETTER; AND
AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE VILLAGE CLERK TO
FORWARD A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND EACH MUNICIPALITY
WITHIN PALM BEACH COUNTY, AND SUCH OTHER PERSONS AS
THE MAYOR MAY DIRECT; AND, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commmissioners of Palm Beach
County has enacted ordinance No. 92-1 which asks the electors of
Palm Beach County to amend the Palm Beach County Charter to make
the County Commission a Countywide Planning Council with power to
establish growth management and land use throughout Palm Beach
County; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 92-1 of the Board of County
Commissioners of Palm Beach County would usurp the power of the
Village of North Palm Beach to determine its own Comprehensive Land
Use Plan; and
WHEREAS, the electors of Palm Beach County will have the
opportunity at a referendum on March 10, 1992, to determine whether
or not Ordinance No. 92-1 of the County Commission shall take
effect.
t BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA:
' Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North
Palm Beach, Florida, stongly opposes Ordinance No. 92-1 of the
Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, Florida which
would amend the Palm Beach County Charter and establish the County
Commission as a Countywide Planning Council with power to establish
growth management and land use throughout the County and which
would usurp the power of the Village of North Palm Beach to
determine its own Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
Section 2. The Village Manager is hereby authorized and
directed to publish this Resolution in full in the Village
Newsletter.
Section 3. The Village Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to the Palm
' Beach County Board of County Commissioners and each municipality
within Palm Beach County, and such other pe rsons as the Mayor may
direct.
Section 4. This Resolution shall t ake effect immediately
upon its adoption.
