1992-04 Opposes Southern Bell Removing Telephones from Parks1 RESOLUTION 4-92 A RESOLUTION OF THS VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, IN STRONG OPPOSITION TO THE PRACTICE AND POLICY OF SOUTHERN BELL IN REMOVING TELEPHONES FROM PARKS AND OTHER PUBLIC PLACES WITHIN THE VILLAGE THAT ARS NEEDED FOR THS PROTECTION, SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE OF THS PUBLIC; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THB VILLAGE CLERK TO FORWARD A CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO SOUTHERN BELL, FLORIDA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION, AND SUCH OTHER PERSONS AS THS MAYOR MAY DIRECT; AND, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, Southern Bell has a practice and policy to remove public telephones from parks and other public places if the revenue falls below a certain amount over a thirteen (13) month period; ' and, WHEREAS, Southern Bell has removed telephones from public places within the Village including the ewale at Osborne Park and St. Clare~s School within the Village of North Palm Beach and such telephones are needed for emergencies and for the convenience of the public; and WHEREAS, Southern Bell as a utility has a moral obligation to provide telephones in public places for the convenience and protection of the public in emergency situations. BE IT RESOLVED SY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida, strongly opposes the practice and policy of Southern Bell in removing telephones for lack of revenue from parks and other public places within the Village that are needed for the protection, safety and convenience of the Public. ' Section 2. The Village Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Southern Bell, Florida Public Service Commission, and such other persons as the Mayor may direct. 1 Section 3.
