NORTH PALM BEACH LOST A BELOVED MEMBER of their com-
munity last Thursday, when Charles O'Meilia passed away at the age
of 85. Fondly known as "Charley", O'Meilia served 26 years as the
NPB Public Services Director, then retired and served 12 years on the
Village Council, where he held a reputation as a stickler for detail.
Charley was born in 1923 in Tulsa, and earned a chemistry degree at
Oklahoma A & M before serving as a U.S. Navy submarine lieutenant
in the Pacific during World War 11. He met his wife of 58 years, Mary
Clare, an Army nurse, in San Francisco at the end of the war. Mary
predeceased Charley in 2005. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made
to the scholarship fund at St. Clare Catholic Church, where Charley
was an usher for many years.
