1990-14 Opposing Proposed Sales Tax to Fund Convention Center Authority'I RESOLUTION NO. 14-90 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, STRONGLY OPPOSING THS PROPOSED TWO PERCENT (2$) SALES TAX ON MEALS IN ALL RESTAURANTS WHICH SERVE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO FUND A CONVENTION CENTER AUTHORITY IN PALM BEACH COUNTY; OPPOSING THS FORMATION OF A NEW SPECIAL DISTRICT TO PROMOTE A CONVENTION CENTER IN PALM BEACH COUNTY, OR, IN THE ALTERNATIVE, URGING THAT SPECIAL PROJECTS SUCH AS THE PROPOSED COUNTY CIVIC CENTER BE FINANCED ' WHOLLY BY RENT AND OTHER CHARGES TO THE ULTIMATE USERS OF THOSE FACILITIES; DIRECTING THE VILLAGE CLERK TO SUBMIT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THS LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION OF PALM BEACH COUNTY, THE PALM BEACH COUNTY MUNICIPAL LEAGUE, THS FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES, AND THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM SBACH COUNTY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation is considering a proposal to create a special district to be known as the Palm Beach County Convention Center Authority; and WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation has proposed that such special dlstrict be financed by a two percent (2$) sales tax on meals in all restaurants which serve alcoholic beverages; and WHEREAS, the Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida strongly opposes these proposals in an attempt to protect its citizens from the increased financial burden which would result from additional taxation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: ' Section 1. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida strongly opposes the creation of a Convention Center Authority in Palm Beach County. Section 2. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida strongly opposes the proposed two percent (2$) sales tax on meals in all restaurants which serve alcoholic beverages,' as proposed by the Palm Beach County Commission to fund the proposed Convention Center. Section 3. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida urges that special projects such as the proposed County Civic Center be financed wholly by rent and other charges to the ultimate users of the facility. Section 4. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of this resolution to the Legislative Delegation of Palm Beach County, The Palm Beach County Municipal League, the Florida League of Cities, and the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County.
