The Braves, The Pirates (WeekDay) May 1982i ne t5raves The Braves are in the Button League of the North Palm Beach Youth Athletic Association. The players are aged 6-8. The sponsor of the Braves is the Sweden House. The current record of the Braves is 1-10. However, manager Clint Reas said, "That record does not really indicate anything. The purpose of this league is to teach the players the fundamentals." Coaches pitch to the players in the Button League to help stress the fundamentals. Reas has three other. coaches that help with the Braves. Rick Gorfido, Charlie Chase, and Ralph Crawford all combined their efforts to teach the team basics of baseball. Sue Reas, the manager's wife, acts as the team mother and Cindy Gorfido is the Braves' scorekeeper. This is Reas' second year of coaching. Lastyear he was an i assistant coach n the Button League of the NPBYAA, so this year he decided to take on the head coaching responsibility. Reas had quite a few comments on the purpose of the Button League. He. stated, "We strive to give the players a competitive attitude, but the main thing is for them to learn the game. The league has a wide caliber of ability. We try to support team play and sportsmanship, regardless of the skill of -each individual._". M.a y 19-25,1982 Week Lia The Pirates- The Pirates are in the Button League of the North Palm Beach Youth Athletic Association. The Pirates are a team of 6, 7, and 8 year old players. The Button League is the first baseball league in the N. P. B.Y.A. A., so the coaches pitch to the youngsters. This allows the game to be filled with more hitting. Dennis Isenhower is the manager of "the Pirates. They have a current record of four wins and four losses. The Pirates sponsor is Jan's Hair Styling. Isenhower has two other coaches that help with the team, Garrett Gralinger and Bob Adams. Adams' "wife, Sue, is the Pirates' team mother. Sharon Isenhower acts as the team's scorekeeper. Coach Isenhower has been coaching for five years. He has been the manager of the teams for two of those years. Sue Adams commented on both the. Button League and the Pirates. She said, "There is a lot of involvement in the Button League. It's fun for the parents as well as the kids. The player are [top row, I -r]; Tom Fraccacreta, John Adams, Joe Garberogliao, Derek Schenavar, Carter Jebb; [Middle row, 1-r]; Alan Guttman, Gary Isenhower, Travis Grainger, Matt Gooding, [Button row, 1-r]; Andy Dean, Kieth George, Scotty Studer, Steven Carroll, Nutt Bowles. All teams came into the home stretch of the North Palm Beach Little League season in recent action. In Button League, the Sweden House Braves edged the Post & Evening Times Rangers, 9-8, before bowing' to the Jan's Hairstyling Pirates, 8-4. The Pirates also topped the World of Carpet Reds 15-12. The Reds bounced back to take the Faith Lutheran Indians, 19-10. The Astros came back from an 8-4 loss to the Indians to nudge the Rangers, 9-5._ The senior division took its mid-season break, but the other divisions continued action in North Palm Beach Little League Action. Close contests marked the Button League, and an extra inning thriller closed out the week. The World of Carpet Reds dumped the Post & Evening Times Rangers, 9-6, and the Sweden House Braves, 17-15. The Rangers came back to take the Faith Lutheran Indians, 9-3, after the Indians had scalped the Jan's Hairstyling Pirates, 20-12. The Smoke Pig Astros topped the Braves, 6-2, and then met the Pirates in the game of the week. In that contest, the Pirates caught the league -leading Astros in the fifth inning on Steve Carroll's clutch hit, and John Adam's extra -inning blast pulled out the 10-9 seat-squirmer.
