THE PASTOR'S LETTER .. . Dear Parishioners and Friends: On this Festival of Dedication, we are grateful to those whose vision 17 years ago began this congregation -and to those members who have since given themselves out of love for Christ to make this day possible. We express our gratitude to our former pastors, who fed us in Word and Sacrament; to our congregational leaders, who have spent many hours in guiding this building program; to our winter guests, who encouraged us spiritually and financially; to the Building Committee, Architects, Contractor, and Laborers; and to all who rejoice with us on this occasion! Above all, we offer our praise and thanksgiving to the Triune God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to Whose glory and honor we dedicate this sanctuary! Now, and in the years ahead, we must prove the sincerity of our gratitude with regular and devout worship, loyal and devoted service, earnest and tactful personal evangelism, and faithful and consecrated stewardship of our money. Loving the Savior in our hearts, we must always prove it with our hands! During these past years we faced many obstacles ... the forces of evil fought the work many times, but God kept His promise and has crowned our efforts with success. With that same grace j and power, we now move into the future! Rev. John L. Frerking, emeritus pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church, Charlotte, North Carolina. An abridged summary of his work for Christ and His Church follows. Following his graduation from Concordia Theological Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, in 1930, Dr. Frerking was called by the English District to become Missionary -at -Large in North and South Carolina. 14 i'tY3i .; %_ s'``ue-- as During the next ten years, he established mission churches and performed survey work throughout the two Carolinas. In 1939, Dr. Frerking was installed as Pastor of Mt. Calvary Congregation in Charlotte, North Carolina, which he had served as Missionary Pastor from its founding in 1931. Beginning with one communicant member, Mt. Calvary grew rapidly and flourished. Today, there are four congregations as a result of the work begun some forty years ago. Dr. Frerking has served the District and Synod in many capacities. He was a member of the Commission for the Organization of the Southeastern District, editor of several publications, Chairman of the Society for Promotion of Mohammedan Missions, Chairman of the District Youth Executive Board and the Board of Christian Education. He has also served as the Chairman of the Southeastern District Stewardship, Membership, and Constitution Committees, Second Vice -President and First Vice -President of the Southeastern Division. Dr. Frerking was elected President of the Southeastern District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in 1959. In 1960, Valparaiso University conferred on him the first "Mind of Christ" award for his work in the field of human relations. Concordia Seminary honored him with the Doctor of Divinity degree in 1963. We welcome him and his beloved wife Katherine into our fellowship! The Chancel Window .. . While the pelican feeding her young with her own blood is an ancient symbol, it is not very familiar to many. The early Church adopted it as a beautiful symbol of our Lord's atonement for us. Christ Jesus shed His blood so that we might have life abundantly! The Church continues to feed on Christ as it is nourished in the Holy Communion. The pelican rests on the anchor, the symbol of our everlasting life and daily hope. The anchor forms the cross at the top, showing that the Living Christ is our stay in life. A fish net forms the background, signifying that the Gospel goes out into the world like a net which is thrown into the waters. People are gathered for Christ's Kingdom as we, His Church, share the Good News with others. This window was created by Ft. Wayne City Glass, (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) on the basis of a preliminary sketch design submitted by Mr. Albert Darragh of our congregation. A Brief History "Where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew XVIII. -20 In January, 1958, a group of thirty people from Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Palm Beach, decided to establish a mission congregation in this area. The Reverend Walter F. Schoech conducted services at Vogel's Funeral Chapel in Riviera Beach. In September, the property on the S.W. corner of U.S. #1 was purchased for $33,000. On Sunday, December 7, 1958, the Constitution and Charter was signed by 54 members. During the summber of 1959 Vicar William Fogle, of Concordia Seminary, served the young congregation. On January 3, 1960, the Reverend Robert E. Wolter was installed as the congregation's first resident Pastor. That same year in April, Faith Congregation was accepted into the membership of the Florida -Georgia District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Groundbreaking for the Fellowship Hall was held on December 18, 1960. The Fellowship Hall was dedicated in 1961. The additional parking lot (west) was purchased and paved in 1962. Pastor Wolter accepted a call in September, 1963. In January, 1964, the Reverend Erdmann Frenk was installed as Pastor. The Christian Education building was dedicated in 1966. In June, 1967, Pastor Frenk accepted a call. The Reverend Otto G. Schultz was called in 1968 and served Faith until February of 1970. Chaplain Arthur M. Senne and the Reverend R. J. Keyl of Delray Beach, served the Congregation on a number of occasions as vacancy pastors. In June of 1970, the Reverend John L. Frerking was installed as Pastor. Steps Toward a New Sanctuary .. . Psalm C,4 The new pipe organ in the sanctuary was built by Casavant Freres Limitee of Quebec, Canada, a firm which is over 100 years old. The instrument contains 22 ranks, or approximately 2,000 pipes, distributed between two manuals, or keyboards, and a pedal clavier. The pipes of the upper keyboard, or Swell division, are enclosed in the case on the left side and fitted with shutters or swell shades that can be opened or closed in varying degrees. The Great division, or 2nd manual, is encased on the right side with the pedal pipes distributed between both cases. All of the facade, or visible pipes, are speaking pipes of the Great and Pedal divisions. The excellent acoustics of the sanctuary and the placement and voicing of the organ reflect the tradition of organ building as practiced during the Baroque era.
