Two Paragraph HistoryTwo Paragraph History In 1956, John and Richard Ross bought the land for North Palm Beach from John D. MacArthur. What is now, the Country Club with a club house and golf course was included in the purchase. A master plan, Florida's first planned community was drawn up. The charter was given to the Village August 13, 1956. Before the first residence was built, the Village had many paved streets, sidewalks, a Village Hall, a functioning sewage disposal plant, water, electric, gas and telephone lines. Dredging operation running north and south split the village in halves. The east -west branches were all bulk -headed. Sales of home -sites began October 1956 with a parade of homes. The Ross brothers also created the North Palm Beach Marina, located on the Inter -coastal waterway and donated 10 acres of land to the Palm Beach County Board of Education for an elementary School. North Palm Beach has a council form of government and had a Council and Department of Public Safety in 1956. Charles Cunningham, Richard Ross, Jay White, John Schwen'cke and J. D. MacArthur formed the first village council.
