1979-19 Asking Governor and Legislature to Aid in the Conservation of EnergyRESOLUTION N0, 19-79 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORT}{ PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO AID IN THE CONSERVATION OF ENERGY BY PRO}iIBI7'- ING BUSINESSES FROM BEING OPEN ON EITHER SUNDAY OR MONDAY. ' WHEREAS, the energy crisis in the United States and the State of Florida is a major cause of inflation, is deteriorating the balance of payments with foreign countries, and is an assault on the finite sources of petroleum and other fossil fuels; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of Florida that reasonable measures be taken to reduce the use of energy; and WHEREAS, the members of the Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida, believe a reasonable way to aid in the conservation of energy is to mandate the closing of all commercial establishments on either Sunday or Monday, in that not only will this reduce by one- ' seventh the use of electrical and gas energy by commercial establishments (except recreation or restaurant establishments), but further will reduce the use of gasoline by shoppers from seven to six days a week; NOW, T}{EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORT}{ PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. Governor Robert Graham and the Florida Legislature are hereby requested to initiate and take all steps which will result in commercial establishments (except recreation or restaurant establishments) in the State of Florida being closed on either Sunday or p7onday in the interest of promoting the health and welfare of the citizens of the State of Florida by a major conservation of energy program. Section 2. The Governor is further requested to promote the ' concept of this Resolution with governors of our neighboring states to trirn this into a national effort to conserve energy, Section 3. The Village Clerk is directed to furnish copies of this Resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida House of Repre- sentatives and the Chairman of the Palm Beach County Legislative llelegation.
