77[}; ROAD S}{OULD BE WIDENED TO FACILITATE INTERSECTIONAL TRAFFIC,
WF[F,REAS, the Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida,
has been advised that the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach
County i.s considering the four-laning of Prosperity Farms Road, in-
cluding that portion of Prosperity Farms Road which lies within the
municipal limits of the Village of North Palm Beach; and
W}H;RF,AS, the cost of four-laning this road is substantial;
and
W}[ERF.AS, four-lane highways in northern Palm Beach County
are needed in locations other than Prosperity Farms Road, and in
particular on Alternate Highway AlA, and funds intended for use on
Prosperity Farms Road could be diverted there; and
Wf[EREAS~ Prosperity Farms Road within the Village of North
Palm Beach runs through a residential district composed mainly of
single-family residences and some duplex residential areas, and the
addition of four-lane traffic would be highly detrimental to those
residents of the Village of North Palm Beach who live on Prosperity
]'arms Road or in the vicinity thereof; and
W}[ERF.AS, the intersection of Prosperity Farms Road and
highthouse llrive in the Village of North Palm Beach is highly con-
gested at this one area due to traffic travelling in four directions
and therefore a widening of Prosperity Farms Road at this intersection
would be a valuable traffic aid;
NOW, T}{EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OI'
NORT}I PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Palm
Reach County, Florida is hereby requested to leave Prosperity Farms
Road as a two-lane highway as it runs through the Village of North
Palm Beach and in other areas consistent with this request, except
' at the intersection of Prosperity Farms Road and Lighthouse Drive,
where the road should be widened to accommodate traffic travelling
in four directions.
Section 2. The Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach
County, Florida is hereby requested to initiate planning for the
routing of traffic between the areas north and south of the Village
oi' North Palm Beach via U. S. 1 and/or Alternate AlA to relieve
Prosperity Farms Road of other than local traffic and prevent it
from becoming a traffic bottleneck at some future date.
Section 3. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to furnis}i
a copy of this Resolution to the Chairman of the Board of County
Conuni_ssioners of Palm Beach County, Florida, to the County }~gineer's
ofi'ice and to County Commissioner Robert Culpepper.
