National Police Week-Police Memorial DayPROCLAMATION VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH OFFICE OF THE MAYOR NATIONAL POLICE WEEK POLICE MEMORIAL DAY WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has designated the week of May 15th to be dedicated as "National Police Week" and May 15th of each year to be "Police Memorial Day;" and WHEREAS, the law enforcement officers are our guardians of life and property, defenders of the individual right to be free men, warriors in the war against crime, and dedicated to the preservation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and WHEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach desires to honor the valor, service, and dedication of its own police officers; and WHEREAS, it is known that every 57 hours an American Police Officer will be killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States and 187 officers will be seriously assaulted in the performance of their duties, our community joins with other cities and towns to honor all peace officers everywhere. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph A. Tringali, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Village of North Palm Beach, do hereby proclaim the week of May 14 - 20, 2000 as POLICE WEEK in the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida, and declare that the Village's flag be flown at half-staff on May 15th to honor the many law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. FURTHER, we call upon all our citizens to honor the police officers of this Village, and by word, deed, and attitude, to show our sincere appreciation to those who make it possible for us to leave our homes and family in safety each day, and return knowing they are protected by men and women willing to sacrifice their lives if necessary, to guard our loved ones, property, and government against all who would violate the law. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Village of North Palm Beach to be affixed this 1 lth day of May, 2000. 1 MAYOR
