03-17-1971 VC SP-Mli U ~l MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, HELD WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 1971 FLORIDA Present: Thomas R. Bell, Mayor Ronald B. Cadby, Councilman H. Mallory Privett, Jr., Councilman Herbert A. Watt, Councilman Dolores R. Inialker, Village Clerk Mayor Bell called the Special Meeting to order at 7:08 ROLL CALL p.m. and asked the Clerk to call the roll, all members being present. Mayor Bell stated that the purpose of this. meeting is PURPOSE OF to constitute the Council as the official .General Election MEETING Canvassing Board for the purpose of canvassing the vote of March 16, 1971, under the provisions of the Village -- Charter and Section 56 of Ordinance No. 42. Council inspected the Statement of Canvass for the General INSPECTION OF Election on March 16; 1971 for Precincts No. 48, 49, 50 STATEMENT OF and 52. CANVASS Clerk read the official tabulation of machine votes CLERK READS cast in the General Election on March 16, 1971 and TAB OF MACHINE these are as follows: VOTES Village Councilman- Group 2 Mervin H. McIntyre 480 votes. Thomas B. Rhodes 556 votes Villag e Councilman, Group 4 Robert F. Slater 796 votes Villag e Councilman, GrouU 5 Walter L. Huckeba 187 votes Robert W. Martin 543 votes James P. O'Flarity 321 votes Following the tabulation of machine votes, Council proceeded to open the absentee ballots which had been received in the office of the Village Clerk. Clerk then read a total for each candidate as follows: Village Councilman- Group 2 1 Mervin H. McIntyre 484 votes Thomas B. Rhodes .556 votes Village Councilman, Group 4 Robert F. Slater 799 votes Village Councilman, Group 5 Walter L. Huckeba -187 votes- Robert W. Martin 549 votes James P. O'Flarity 321 votes ABSENTEE BALLOTS COUNTED w Minutes of Special Meeting Held Wednesday, March 17, 1971 Page 2 Total machine votes cast - 1067 Total Absentee Ballots - 6 ' On motion of Councilman Privett, seconded by Councilman RES. N0. Cadby, all present voting aye, proposed Resolution No. 495-71 495-71 entitled: ADOPTED A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON MARCH 16, 1971 was read in full and adopted as read as Resolution No. 495-71. Mayor Bell stated that the Council will hold its organi- COUNCIL zational meeting on Thursday, March 25, 1971, in accor- ORGANIZATIONAL dance with the requirements outlined in Article III, MEETING TO BE Section 6 of the Village Charter. HELD MARCH 25, 1971 Mayor Bell instructed the Clerk to incorporate in these LETTERS OF minutes that he has received from Mr. R. W. Martin and RESIGNATION Mr. R. F. Slater letters of resignation from their FROM MESSRS. respective advisory boards. MARTIN & SLATER FRQ~4 THEIR RESPECTIVE AD- VISORY BDS. Clerk administered Oath of Office for newly elected OATH OF OFFICE Councilmen Robert W. Martin, Thomas B. Rhodes and ADMINISTERED Robert F. Slater, as required by Article III, Section TO NEWLY ELECTED 5 of the Village Charter. These oaths shall be spread COUNCILMEN upon the minutes of the Council. Loyalty Oaths were read and signed by Councilmen LOYALTY OATHS Martin, Rhodes and Slater, as required by Florida READ & SIGNED Statutes 876.05. After the newly elected Councilmen took their Oaths of Office and signed their Loyalty Oaths, they became official members of the Village Council, and Mayor Thomas R. Bell and Councilman Herbert A. Watt vacated their places at the Council table and the newly elected Councilmen took their respective places at the Council table. NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEN TAKE THEIR RESPECTIVE PLACES AT THE COUNCIL TABLE On motion of Councilman Cadby, seconded by Councilman COUNCILMEN Martin, all present voting aye, Councilman Mallory PRIVETT APPOINT- Privet~t was appointed as Acting Chairman until Council's ED ACTING organizational meeting of March 25, 1971.
