The ribbon-cutting ceremony and program marked the opening of the town's brand-new veterans memorial park. U.S Army veteran Kip Monroe was proud to be there. He fought in World War II and earned four Purple Hearts during tours in France, Germany and Belgium. The 92-year-old wants to make sure history doesn't skip the next generation. "I don't think the young people realize what went on in any of the wars," Monroe said. "None were good and one was worse than the other." Walter Tabbert, 88, is part of the greatest generation too. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-47. Tabbert spent three months as a prisoner of war. He said today's ceremony brings back a lot of memories. "It kind of brings back what was done back then," Tabbert said. "Today it's still at it. Still working for peace I guess," he said. The ceremony lasted about an hour. Organizers recognized veterans from World War II to the present. Monroe expected it to be an emotional day. "I'll probably cry a little. Just remember what was."
