1998-29 Standards for Use of Palm Trees. ORDINANCE NO. 29-98 AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING SUBSECTION (b) TREE SPECIES, OF SECTION 27-62 OF ARTICLE III, LANDSCAPING, OF CHAPTER 27, TREES AND SHRUBBERY, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE VILLAGE, TO PROMULGATE AND SET FORTH STANDARDS FOR USE OF PALM TREES; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDdINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: ection I. Subsection (b), Tree Species, of Section 27-62 of Article III, Landscaping, of Chapter 27, Trees and Shrubbery, of the Code of Ordinances of the Village is hereby amended to read as follows: "(b) Tree Species. Trees shall be species having an average mature spread of crown of greater than fifteen (15) feet in this area or this county and having trunks which can be maintained in a clear condition over five (5) feet of clear wood. Trees having an average mature spread of crown less than fifteen (15) feet may be substituted by grouping the same so as to create the equivalent of a fifteen foot crown spread. Tree species shall be a minimum of fifteen (15) feet overall height immediately after planting. Trees of species whose roots are known to cause damage to public roadways or other public works shall not be planted closer than twelve (12) feet to such public works unless the tree root system is completely contained within a barrier for which the minimum interior containing dimensions shall be five (5) feet square and five (5j feet deep, and for which the construction requirements shall be four inch thick concrete reinforced with no. 6 road mesh (6 x 6 x 6) or equivalent. A list of such tree species shall be maintained by the village for the guidance of the public. Palms shall be considered trees and in accordance with the following standards: 1. Trees to be clustered in Groups of 3 minimum • 2. 3 palms equal 1 shade tree 3. 8' gray wood - 15' height • 4. 50% maximum palms in place of shade trees 5. 6" minimum caliper" ection 2.
