The project, which will be paid for with recreation department money and grant money, will include a trellis, stage, lighting, swings and flagpoles. Work is expected to be complete in October, in time for the village's annual Veteran's Day celebration. "It's going to be a passive park," said Chuck Huff, the village's director of community development. "You can walk through it, you can sit, you can read a book. There'll be swings, trash cans, lights and bricks, like we have throughout the village. You can buy a brick. That's huge, because we have a lot of veterans, like myself" The village is finalizing plans for the project and will put it out to bid in mid-May, Huff said. Once the bid is awarded in June, construction will begin. The park will be on a nearly 1-acre parcel of land north of the library, at 303 Anchorage Drive. The site has been vacant since 2004, after the Herb Watt Recreation Building was demolished. The building, which dated to the 1960s, was used as a meeting room, copy center, print shop and storage facility. It became run down through the years and ultimately was torn down. "The area became open space," Huff said. Plans to build a memorial park on the property have been discussed for nearly three years, but were put aside because of a lack of grant money, Huff said. Recently, the village reached out to Deanna Rennebaum, a landscape architect and wife of Robert Rennebaum, a consulting engineer with the village, to put together plans for a memorial. She conceived a set of conceptual plans at no cost to the village and forwarded them to the council, Huff said. "It looks really cool," Huff said. "There's not a lot of structure work. I'm sure this will go off without a hitch." y C>. a ° Cd to biD co Ej•., y w U4 a 0 u y v ww a [ di, ex cu ,_; y, y O O a+- -- .QS . E a R. prdctiFro O VC u Oq pu ua cd cd 0 !1J O 5 14 a r , E-o o'' n z. ° rAai5 "ab,ou - C0 0,-, M . d :mac ^ s -- 4--J + m = o a u wa y en u ° osa. bp a) arcy.C"•,E" w boa o' s xrov Cd 3 .El m 0 N 1 Of a a a a ce CL W W Y F N .
