VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
NORTH PALM BEACH FIRE FIGHTER APPRECIATION MONTH
WHEREAS, fighting fires is one of the most hazardous professions, requiring physical strength,
stamina, extensive training, courage, and selfless concern for the welfare of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, in addition to their daily service to our communities, Fire Fighters throughout the state
and across the nation have joined the Muscular Dystrophy Association for the past 58 years in the fight
against neuromuscular diseases; and
WHEREAS, Florida Fire Fighters collected over $1,318,231 in over 300 communities, including North
Palm Beach Fire Fighters within the Professional Firefighters /Paramedics of Palm Beach County IAFF
Local 2928, who raised $90,000 with their 2011 "Fill the Boot" campaign for the MDA, again making
them the MDA's largest source of funding; and
WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association is extremely grateful to the Village of North Palm
Beach Fire Fighters for their support and dedication; and
WHEREAS, the funds collected by North Palm Beach Fire Fighters assist the MDA in providing
medical services at local clinics, summer camp, research grants, support groups, and public education
seminars at no cost to local children and families; and
WHEREAS, in honor of the efforts of the Village of North Palm Beach Fire Fighters, the Muscular
Dystrophy Association is sponsoring "North Palm Beach Fire Fighter Appreciation Month;" and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for all North Palm Beach citizens to join the Muscular Dystrophy
Association in this tribute to our fire fighters.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, David B. Norris, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the
Village of North Palm Beach, do hereby proclaim the month of August, as
NORTH PALM BEACH FIRE FIGHTER APPRECIATION MONTH
in the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida.
FURTHER, I commend the Village of North Palm Beach Fire Fighters for their efforts on behalf of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association.
