VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA

Mayor Pierman called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. All members
of Council were present. The Village Manager and Finance Director
also were present.
The purpose of the Special Workshop was to discuss employee group
health proposals submitted by Humana Medical Plan, Florida League
of Cities, and FIRMA.
The Village Manager reported on the group health plan currently
available with FIRMA (self insured), formed by an association of 7
cities and administered by McCreary Corporation. Mr. Kelly
reported that the village's cost is based on actual claims plus the
cost of having a program administrator, determined by contract.
Claims history appears to be cyclical, and have been
extraordinarily high during the past three years. Although there
is high probability that the claims are on the decline,
alternatives are being discussed to lower the costs of the Village
in providing employee health benefits.
Discussion was held concerning the proposals received from FIRMA,
Humana Health Care, and Florida League of Cities. Bill McCreary,
Peter Bono and Connie Lynn Destache, and Mike Madden, respectively,
were present and gave a brief synopsis of their proposals.
With further study to be made of all proposals, another special
workshop will scheduled, date to be announced at the next Regular
Session.
