OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FIARIIIA, AMENDING SECTION 2, ARTICLE III, OF THE VILiAGE CHARTER BY CHANGING THE DATE OF THE GENERAL ELECTION FR~I THE THII2D TUESIIAY IN MARCH ~ THE SECOND TUESDAY IN MARCH OF EACH YESR; PROVIDING THAT THIS ORDINANCE OF AMENDMEP7T SHALL BE ' SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF THE VILIAGE AT A SPECIAL ELECTION TD BE lIE[.D IN THE VILLAGE ON THE 4TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1980 IN THE FORM OF A PROPOSITION ON THE REFERENDUM ELECTIOPd BALIAT; ALA PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. BE IT ORi]AINED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PAirI BEACH, FI.ORIAA: Section 1. Pursuant to Chapter 166, Florida Statutes, Section 2 of Article III of the Charter of the Village of North Palm Beach be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 2. Election and Terms. On the second Tuesday in March of each year a genera a ectLOn shall be held to elect members of the village council. the selection of members of the village council shall be by groups to be known as Groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. The councilmen in Groups 1, 3 and 5 shall be elected in the even years. The terns of office of a councilman shall cam~ence upon his election and qualification and shall continue for two years ' thereafter and until his successor is elected and qualified; provided, however, that the ternis of office of those councilmen whose terms expire in March of 1981 and March of 1982 shall be shortened by a period of one week." Section 2. The amendment to the Charter of the Village of North Palm Beach as created by this Ordinance shall be submitted to a wte of the registered voters of the Village of North Palm Beach on Tuesday, the 4th day of Novanber, 1980 at a Special Election to be held for that purpose between the hours of 7:00 A. M. and 7:00 P. M. The form of ballot'to be used shall be such as is consistent with the use of voting machines, together with absentee ballots in form consistent with the existing Village of North Palm Beach ordinances. The proposition to be stated on the ballot shall be as follows: Proposition: Shall the Charter of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida be amended by char~gir~g the date of the ' general election from the third Tuesday in March to the second Tuesday in March of each year? If a majority of the registered voters voting at said special election shall vote to accept the amendment to the Charter, the amendment shall take effect sixty (60) days from the date of canvassing and declaring the result of said election, If a majority of the registered esters voting at said election shall vote not to accept the amendment, then the Charter of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida shall remain as it existed prior to the canvassing and declaring the results of this election.
