VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
NATIONAL HUNGER ACTION MONTH
WHEREAS, every year in September, there is a nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to
take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States, and;
WHEREAS, despite the wealth in Palm Beach County, more than 201,000 residents struggle with
hunger, with 54,000 being children who do not have enough to eat on daily basis, according to Feeding
America's "Map the Meal Gap" report, and;
WHEREAS, according to Florida Department of Children and Families', Public Assistance Caseload
Report, 68,578 Palm Beach County households received food assistance as of July 2026; and
WHEREAS, 49% of county households are struggling to make ends meet, according to the most
recent ALICE report. Alice an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, represents
the growing number of individuals and families who are working but are unable to afford necessities of
housing, childcare, food, transportation, health care and technology, and;
WHEREAS, in 2015, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners and United Way of
Palm Beach County (UWPBC) developed the Hunger Relief Plan Palm Beach County. The UWPBC's
Hunger Relief team continues to lead this collective impact initiative with more than 150 partners
addressing childhood hunger, senior hunger, building infrastructure, alleviating hunger, increasing
access to fresh produce in the Glades and advocacy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lisa Interlandi, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the
Village of North Palm Beach, do hereby proclaim September 2026 as
HUNGER ACTION MONTH
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Village of North
Palm Beach to be affixed this 10th day of September 2026.
