Fred has many friends he has made through his ownership of Royal Palm Inn in Scottsdale's famous Paradise Valley and Colonial Inn at Harbor Springs, Mich., which he still owns. Fred brings to Lost Tree a wealth of experience gained over many years in the direction of clubs and resorts. Years later, when the land was again surveyed for the Celestial Railroad, the tree had disappeared. A second tree was chosen as • marker but this too vanished by the time of the next survey in 1913. Engineers drove a marking stake, but when the 1948 survey was made, this also had disap- peared. Intrigued by the capricious disappearance of trees and stakes, the planners felt that "Lost Tree" would be a most fitting name for their golf club and village. "Blue" Hoyt, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Governors, is a dedicated golfer, well known and very popular. Memphis Country Club is his home club and his fine direction has made Lost Tree nationally known, both socially and golf -wise. Many improvements have been made this year which include a new dining room decorated in a charming informal way that has always been characteristic of Lost Tree. Everyone had a wonderful time, and John G. "Blue" Hoyt, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Governors, plans to make the Invitational an annual event. Other tournaments of national importance in the golf world are being held at Lost Tree. Henry Lindner, golf professional, is well known throughout the golf world as an outstanding instructor.
