Dirt roads have Wellington community kickingup dust By MITRA MALEK Palm Beach Post Staff Writer WELLINGTON — Two roads that residents argue kick up dust that settles on their homes and in their lungs might be paved. In Wellington's Eques- trian Preserve, 120th Avenue South and 50th Street South have been dirt roads for decades, and parts of f them still are. For riders that has generally been an allure. But the Isles at Wel- lington Community As- sociation since at least 2008 has asked the village to pave 50th. Street, and residents in the 759-home community have logged dust problems regarding 120th Avenue. "It's everywhere, on any surface, any plant," said resident Ivette Helal, who contacted the Palm Beach County Health Depart- ment in 2009 about 120th Avenue. Source: Village of Wellington The village council is expected to discuss the is- sue during its May 9 agen- da review, with additional consideration tentatively scheduled for its May 24 meeting. "We will absolutely tell you that. there is a dust problem down there," Village Manager Paul that there is still black dust floating around," said Greg Cafaro, President of -Isles at Wellington Com- munity Association. It's unclear whether the equestrian - community would be in favor of paving the roads, said Barbara Richardson, chairwoman of Wellington's Equestrian POLICE Br mil« LAKE PARK — Deputies found a man shotdead at a duplex shortly before 4 p.m. Monday. The man, whose identify was not released, was killed in the 200 block of Sev- enth Street just north of Bayberry Drive, accord- ing to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. He appeared to have been shot in the back, spokeswoman Teri Bar- bera said. One neighbor said she heard five gunshots, saw several people running and then found the victim, who she said was 19. WEST PALM BEACH Pros- ecutors are_ expected to rest their case today against a woman ac- cused of killing her friend and pool cleaner after she says he raped her. Marcia Rodrigues has been on trial for first - degree murder since last week in connection with the 2006death of Ildo Araujo, a man she shot with a .38caliber revolver Prosecutors told jurors Rodrigues killed Araujo in a rage after the two had con- sensual sex. Attorneys for Rodrigues says she suffers from paranoid personality disorder and her illness, coupled with the sexual assault she endured, made her believeshehad to kill Araujo in self-defense. Knight, 53, cited -health reasons as the cause for leav- ing the position that pays $167,000 annually. Knight became North Palm Beach police chief in 2004.
