She was 86. Lillie Ethel Helms was born Aug. 18, 1900, in Barbour County, Ala., the fifth of 11 children of farming parents. She taught school for a few years, earning $50 a month. r!- She originally settled in the Pa-. hokee area in 1936. Concerned that Pahokee High School had no ca.tete- ria at the time, she suggested a fund-raising day, or?anized it and helped raise $1,000 to get the cafe- teria going, then ran it.
