OBITUARIES
Lillie Lavelle, an early resident
of Palm Beach County, died Mon --
day in a Fort Lauderdale nursing
home. She was 86.
Lillie Ethel Helms was born Aug.
18, 1900, in Barbour County, Ala.,
the fifth of 11 children of farming
parents. She taught school for a few
years, earning $50 a month.
r!- She originally settled in the Pa-.
hokee area in 1936. Concerned that
Pahokee High School had no ca.tete-
ria at the time, she suggested a
fund-raising day, or?anized it and
helped raise $1,000 to get the cafe-
teria going, then ran it. Later she
moved to West Palm Beach. At her
death she was a resident of Palm
Beach Shores,
