anniversary of the Village with memo-
rabilia and photographs. It will be
opened at the celebration of its 50th
anniversary in 2006.
My father and I
contributed aerial
photographs to the
capsule. Along with
village historian, the
late Bill Young, and
the library director,
Nancy Moore, we
produced an historical
brochure of the Village
with the above picture
on the cover. The
timeless photograph of
the sailboat and the
North Palm Beach
Country Club has been
used to promote the
idyllic life of our area since the '70s.
In our "On the Town" feature, resi-
dents reveal the "magic" of the
Village. Yes, the environs are beauti-
ful, and the government is well run
with excellent schools and services.
But the real magic is the friendliness,

charm and thoughfulness of neigh-
bors and Village employees.
Some say that smiles are conta-
gious. There's a sense of happiness in
the Village, where -residents practice
random acts of kindness.
Whether we live in the Village or
in one of our other great communi-
ties, by caring for our neighbors; vol-
unteering in our schools, charity orga-
nizations and hospitals; and participat-
ing in our government, we can make a
difference.
Sometimes people make a
"geographical cure" thinking that by
moving to another area life will be bet-
ter. Sometimes it is true, but it is also
said that "wherever we go, there we
are." Sometimes we are what needs to
change.
Next time we grumble about the
state of our neighborhood, let's take a
moment to think about how we per-
sonally can make it better.
