Pool One Of Largest
In The United States
The new swimming pool
at North Palm Beach Coun-
try Club is the largest and
deepest L-shaped pool con-
structed in the UnitedStates
south of Atlanta.
Only five other outdoor
pools in the nation equal the
swimming and dining facil-
ities of the club.
In addition to the main
pool sections --one mea-
suring 169 by 75 feet, the
other 75 by 50 feet --there
are three separate child-
ren's pools.
A four -deck diving tower,
almost 40 feet high, dom-

Sir Harry Oakes
Built Course To
Avenge Snubbing
The late Sir Harry Oakes
who was murdered myster-
iously in the Bahamas some
years back, created the or-
iginal golf course at North.
Palm Beach.
It is reported that he
was not, in the beginning,
readily accepted into Palm
Beach society -- nor into
exclusive golf clubs that
then existed.
In a huff, he bought the
ground, laid out his own
private course and con -
still stands,
Farmer & Irwin Corpor-
ation, which did the plumb-
ing, points out that 5,704
feet of pipe was used in —
the project,
In all, the pool capacity
is 510, 0 0 0 gallons plus
12,000 gallons for the wad-
ing pools.
NORTH PALM COUNTRY CLUB ONE OF FLORIDA'S FINEST
Ntwx°s"°"F Beautiful New Clubhouse
THE GOLF COURSE
OUTSTANDING
Swimming Class Has A Workout
(Sunpaper Photo)
Young swimmers, many of them o f championship
calibre, work out in the great Olympic -sized pool.
With the formal opening
of its new facilities, the
North Palm Beach Country
Club becomes one of the
finest in Florida.
It is a complete club,
intended for family enjoy-
ment --with a sporting 18-
hole golf course, an Olym-
pic -size swimming pool,
a complete new clubhouse.
The opening is the cul-
mination of a project which
began January 2,1962, when
the village purchased the
golf course facilities for
$1,015,000. This original
purchase price included 146
acres of golf course pro-
perty and the old clubhouse
facilities.
Since the time of the golf
course purchase, the vil-
lage government has ex-
pended $400,000 for the new
clubhouse building, pool
facilities, and renovation
of a large section of the
course.
The new clubhouse build-
ing provides a golf shop,
golf locker and shower fac-
ilities, a cocktail lounge,
two dining rooms, shower
and dressing rooms for
pool users, and a pool area
snack bar.
Thomas A. Hodges Con-
struction Go., Inc., was
general contractor for the
work. Kelsey City Land-
scaping. Co. had the land-
scaping prime contract.
The swimming pool fac-
ility compares with the fin-
est. Only five other outdoor
pools in the United States
equal the swimming and
dining facilities of the
North Palm Beach Country
Club pool.
The pool meets all Olym-
pic pool specifications. It
is precisely 50 - meters
long; it has a 25-yard pool
area; and it is equipped
with a 10-meter high diving
tower.
A patio area measuring
30,000 square feet sur-
rounds the pool. Adjacent
to the pool on the east
side are three children's
wading pools.
The golf course recon-
struction program involved
five new fairways, greens
and tees. Two lakes were
built in the construction
project and a new sprink-
ler system was installed in
the renovated areas.
Adjacent to the clubhouse
building, a 36-hole putting
green area was built. The
over-all course now mea-
sures 6,453 yards, approx-
imately 200 yards longer
than the previous course.
Also, the golf course im-
provement program result-
ed in a sportier and some-
what more difficult course.

NPB Country Club
Center Of Social Life
Rebuilding of the back -
nine holes at North Palm
Beach Country Club has
resulted in creation of 103
building lots on 58 acres.
"This will truly become
a golfers' village," said
Jack Schwencke, general
manager of NorthlakeProp-
erties, developers of the
tract. "It will be possible
for residents here to drive
their own carts directly
from their homes right
across the fairway to the
clubhouse."
No lot is smaller than
100 by 130 feet. Twenty-
three lots front on water-
ways and 53 adjoin the
fairways.
Wherever possible,trees
have been preserved for
natural beauty. The lots are
exceptionally high for Flo-
rida tracts.

More than 600 members will use this clubhouse for dining, social activities and
enjoyment of golf and swimming. Giant palms give true tropical atmosphere.

Form Of Government
North Palm Beach has a
city manager form of gov-
ernment.
There are three main
departments - the building
inspection department,
headed by Wallace G. Car-
ver, building official; the
police and fire departments
headed by Chief Albert G.
Dudden, and the Public
Works Department, headed
by Robert D. Hill. The op-
eration of the village is
conducted with 21 employ-
ees.
North Palm Beach was
incorporated and granted a
charter by the state legis-
lature on August 13, 1956.
The charter provides for a
five -man council and a vil-
lage manager to head up
the administrative aspects
of the municipal govern-
ment. The council selects
the mayor from its own
membership.
To fill the post of vil-
lage manager the council
sought out a man trained
and experienced in muni-
cipal government. Albin R.
Olson was appointed village
manager and the council-
manager form of govern-
ment was functioning lay-

development of the model
community before the first
resident arrived in Dec-
ember, 1956.
