The alleged gunman told police
an open laundry door set him off

NORTH PALM BEACH — A North
Palm Beach man charged with shoot-
ing his neighbor Thursday night said
the attack was prompted by a door
left open and complained to a detec-
tive that "people are so inconsiderate,"
according to an arrest
report.
Jack Abrams, 36, told
police he shot neighbor
Timothy Gwinnell, 52,
about 5 p.m. after Gwin-
nell's girlfriend left open
a laundry room door in Abrams
their apartment complex.
Abrams became angry and com-
plained to the woman that he was al-
ways left to clean up after others at the
apartment building at 714 Northlake
Court, according to the arrest report.
"I don't get paid to do this," he said he
yelled.
When Gwinnell went to investi-
gate the commotion, Abrams said he
reached for a gun he carried in his

Gwinnell was in the
intensive care unit at St.
Mary's Medical Center
and is "very critical,"
Assistant State attorney
Mary Ann Duggan said
Friday morning in court.
Abrams waited for
North Palm Beach police
to arrive and confessed
to being the shooter, in-
vestigators said. He told
a detective hewished he
"could take it back."
But he said life had
been hard with him.
He told police he had
recently lost his job and
had just stopped smoking
marijuana.
• As if that weren't
enough, he said "people
(expletive) with me," add-
ing that life comes down
"hard on me," according
to the report.
He was arrested on
a charge of attempted
murder and ordered by a
judge to be held without
bail at the Palm Beach
County Jail.
