VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, October 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness
Month; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to educate about
disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America's workers
with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, The history of NDEAM traces back to 1945, when it started as a week and focused only
on people with physical disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Later, it expanded to a full month, and its name and scope evolved to acknowledge the
importance of increasing the workforce inclusion of people with all nature of disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Workplaces welcoming of the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are
a critical part of our efforts to build an inclusive community and strong economy; and
WHEREAS, Activities during this month will reinforce the value and talent people with disabilities add
to our workplaces and communities and affirm North Palm Beach's commitment to an inclusive
community that increases access and equity for all, including individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, since 1994, Best Buddies has successful placed thousands of adults with intellectual and
developmental disabilities in competitive, integrated employment; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, David B. Norris, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Village
of North Palm Beach, do hereby proclaim October 2023 as
NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH
in the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Village of
North Palm Beach to be affixed this 26th day of October 2023.
