HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-11-17 Friday is Charles O'Meilia day in NPB (WeekDay)Friday is `Charles O'Meilia' day in NPB Director of Public Services honored after 25 years by Bill Friis Twenty-five years of loyal and highly efficient service by North Palm Beach's Director of Public Services Charles R. (Charley) O'Meilia were recognized in two ways by the Village Council at its Tuesday, Nov. 9 meeting. First, O'Meilia was presented with a plaque commemorating those 25 years, and second, the village named Friday, Nov. 19 as "Charley O'Meilia Day." Holder of both bachelor's degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering from Oklahoma A&M, O'Meilia began working for the village in 1968 as Public Works Director, but his first assignment was to set up a new department to take the place of the former public works unit. It combines the functions of the village's former public works, planning, building and zoning departments. As Public Services Directer, O'Meilia has also served as the village's chief code enforcement officer since the reorganization. Unfortunately, the village and its residents will soon be without O'Meilia s services, at least in an official capacity. He plans to retire next Summer. Asked what he planned to do- after retirement, O'Meilia replied, "Well, I'lji not going to just sit around. I'll be doingjsome consulting work, and will be available'•as an expert witness in court cases," he replied. CHARLES R.
