It is not to be confused in any shape form or manner with 'tea time', in which only the little pinkie, usually of the right hand, is concerned. This tee time involved the use of both hands, all fingers, a little photo -elec- tric cell in the back of the pate ---which, by the way, is not to be confused with any electrical device in back of the plate (baseball, you know.) The word 'tee' in itself becomes a nasty little noun with several connotations. A tee is a mound ---and we are back to baseball. A tee is a cone --and we are at the ice-cream stand. A tee is a goal --we are playing quoits. The dictionary informs us that a golf ball may be played off a dirt mound or a wooden tee. There are some tees (locally, I might add) that are purely and simply dirt mounds --- then, there are some real beauties that beg you to 7 tee that wooden cone high lest you deface the sod. EGO -CRUSHING There is an expression that I believe to be uni- versal and not colloquial, and it is 'teed-off'...this is the ego crushing feeling that overwhelms you when you over estimate your a- bility to swing a golf club between tee and green. This, to the uninitiated, is known as a whiff. Prior to tee -off time, any golf course looks like any night in any gymnasium. This is known as limber up time. If you prefer to be loose instead of limber, you stand two club lengths apart from any other gymnast and flail away to your heart's content. If, as I mentioned, you decide to limber up, you systematically start with a seven, eight or nine iron, and flail away with that. Golf has been called an idiot's game, with the par- ticipant being a real nut for chasing that white pill over hill and down dale. I am such a nut. I enjoy it. There was a time when I would have said, 'I love it'. Somewhere along the line the illusion of becom- ing a master of the game is long lost. Thats the time you start to 'enjoy ' it. Let me not deceive you that I am content with mi- serable golf. The pars make the amateur feel like a pro, and the feeling re- mains until the next shot puts you out of bounds or the ball shanks itself out of orbit and your ego goes dribbling after it. ONE MORE CHANCE Golf is that delightful game that no matter how poorly you play, you al- ways get one more chance. Then, too, if you play it right, you might not even lose your turn! I have written this with tongue in cheek, but truly believe that if anyone, re- gardless of age, would like to have a little extra fun in life, try dancing!! Golf is for the dedicated, frustrated, optimistic, nerveless individuals of the world. PALM ROTARY The Rotary Club of the North Palm Beaches, on Monday will hear an ani- mated lecture by Frank Rogers, who recently re- turned from the Rotary In- ternational Convention in Tokyo. Rogers, a retired official of the Scranton, Pa., Transit Co., visited all sections of Japan and recorded his trip on color film. The story of his tra- vels will be presented with the assistance of Dr. I.B. Lees. It's Only Natural For A Child To Resent New Baby Baby In Family By MISS MARY L. TODD (Home Demonstration Agent) "Sally insists on drinking her milk out of a bottle now," complains a worried mother. "She hasn't done this for ages and used to enjoy drinking from a glass. I can't understand what's come over her." Well, Sally is just in competition with the new baby. She is jealous and wants attention too. She thinks that by imitating the baby, she will get the at- tention mothers give to the new child. Jealousy is ex- pressed in many ways. Sal- ly's mother might realize she was jealous if Sally tried to hurt the baby. An- other child might do this, or Sally may do it later, but now she is showing her jealousy in another form. Parents can expect the older child to be jealous of a new brother or sister. It is natural and normal. Parents can't stop jeal- ousy, but they can soften the blow and prevent much of the misery caused by jealousy. It is necessary that parents accept the fact that the child will be jeal- ous and try to understand the child's viewpoint. He feels that the new baby is getting the love and atten- tion that he used to get and that the baby is tak- ing mother away from him. Naturally, the child re- sents it and tries various ways to get attention for himself. Let him do small jobs to help and to keep him for feeling left out of things. Talk to him and, even more important, listen to what he says. More than anything else, show your child that you still love him. District Exchange Clubs MORE 'N' MORE Meet All Day Sunday On Singer Isle Holiday Inn on Singer Is- land will be the site of an all -day meeting of District 2 of the Exchange Club Sunday. Approximately 15 0 are expected to attend. The Exchange Club of North Palm Beach County will be host. Pre side nt Herbert Rissier, who is chairman of the boy and girl committee of this dis- trict and co-chairman of the state committee, will be in charge. Each of the seven clubs in the district has chosen a "boy and a girl of the year" from among those whom they have honored during the school year just closing. From among these will be chosen a boy and a girl to represent the dis- trict at the state conven- tion in Daytona Beach in May. In the evening there will be a speech contest on Americanism. The contestants will be winners of speaking con- tests sponsored by each of the clubs from their respective high schools. This winner will compete at the State convention.
