THELMA OBERT
Personal History
Born Columbus, New Jersey. Received undergraduate degree in 1927 from Dickinson
College. Member and President of Phi Mu Fraternity. Master's degree in Elementary
Administration from New York University in 1941. Widow of J. Edwin Obert, M.D.
Professional History
Taught junior high school. Elementary school principal. President of Ocean County,
New Jersey, Principals' Association.
Community Involvement
Program Chairman Ocean County, New Jersey, Medical Society Auxiliary. Member of
the Palm Beach County Medical Society Auxiliary. Secretary of the Medical -Dental
Wives of the North Palm Beaches. On the board and officer of Palm Beach County
League of Women Voters for several years. Board member and officer of Lung
Association (then known as Tuberculosis and Health Association) in both Ocean
County, New Jersey, and Palm Beach County. Member of and on board of County
Library Association, Ocean County, New Jersey. Was instrumental in creation of North
Palm Beach Library. Currently serves on North Palm Beach Library Advisory Board.
AAUW Participation
Member of AAUW in Toms River, New Jersey,1944-1950. Member Palm Beach County
Branch 1955-1959. One of founders of and charter member of the North Palm Beach
Branch in 1959. President of North Palm Beach Branch 1961-1963. Other offices held:
International Relations Chairman, Fellowships Chairman, Membership Chairman,
By -Laws Chairman, Recording Secretary. Presently serving as Parliamentarian and
Historian of the North Palm Beach Branch.
