Everyone's invited to this Saturday; celebration By Sheri Tierney 1(44-47Z124Y Saturday, August 17th will be a big day for North Palm Beach residents because they are celebrating 40th Anniversary as an incorporated village. Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Park off Lakeside Drive. Former Mayor Judy M. Pierman and her committee --especially JoAnn Montgomery and Dolores Kurtz --have worked hard to organize a program that begins with the dedication of 14 marine and bird, wood sculptures at the park. "This is an interesting project that I have worked on with Joyce and Ray Lilly and Sam Golden," Pierman said. "We decided to replace dead Australian Pine trees with permanent sculptures --not costing the taxpayers a Happy 40th Birth CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 cent --and these are a birthday present to the village," she added. Another birthday present --fine art -- will come from artist Joyce Lilly who is donating a painting for the village hall. Former village managers and council members have been invited to the celebration, including " Jack Schwenke, the only surviving member of the first village council, whom we hope will attend as a guest of honor," Pierman said. Dignitaries who have been invited include County Commissioner Karen' Marcus and Congressman Clay Shaw. Al McKenna's Orchestra will ay B entertain during the morning activities, which include a ceremonial birthday cake -cutting and the kickoff Hof : a new beautification program for the village. North Palm Beach 40th Birthday activities • There will be a dedication of the Lakeside Park sculptures at 10:30 am on, Saturday. • The Al McKenna Orchestra will perform at i l ' am. • The cutting of the Birthday Cake. will take place at 11:30 am. • From 12 noon to_2:30 pm, there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, and fun activities. In . the event sof, rain, these ceremonies will be held at the Nor th Palm Be ach Co mmunity y Center on Prosperity Farms Road. • A Tennis mixed doubles tournament will begin at 3 pm on Saturday at the'North Palm Beach Country .Club. EntrY, .fee is $21 per person for Village residents (non- members) and includes 18 holes of golf, cart and prizes. Call the NBPCC Golf Shop at 626-4344 to arrange a time.
