Police Department: Distraction Burglaries
The North Palm Beach Police Department would like to inform all residents on how to
protect themselves from becoming a victim of a distraction theft. The key to prevention is to
understand the method of operation and how these criminals are able to commit this type
of crime. Suspects can be either male or female and will often pose as landscapers, pest
control specialists, plumbers, electricians, and/or utility workers. These subjects will attempt
to gain the trust of the victim and create a sense of urgency to distract you from your home
and into your backyard if possible. While being distracted in your backyard, others may
enter your home without your knowledge and steal any belongings that they feel may be of
value. Do not feel obligated to open the door. Confirm the identity of all workers prior to
allowing them into your house or onto your property. If you are not expecting a service and
feel that this is suspicious, call 911 immediately. Distraction Theft Criminals, also known as
"traveling criminals" target elderly residents when they are the most vulnerable. Do not
allow yourself to become distracted. If you know of a neighbor who may be considered a
vulnerable target, share this important information with
them so that they will be prepared in how to handle this
type of situation. Be mindful of what is in your neighbor-
hoods and remember to report any suspicious activity
immediately to the North Palm Beach Police Department.

When I was 18 years old, my

Mow you can help
Today, humans are Impacting coastal areas
are destroying sea turtle nesting habitat,
places where these ancient nomads have
nested for thousands of years. Help protect
Florida's sea turtfes and coastal habitats!
• Adopt -A -Turtle to Support Sea
Turtle Conservation. loin and support
the Sea Turtle Conservancy by visiting
www.conserveturtles.org or by calling
352-373-6441.
• Reduce the Amount of Plastic
Garbage You Produce. Think about
how you and others can get through
each day using less plastic and find
places that recycle plastic.
• Organize or Join a Beach Clean
Up. Work with local groups or your
school to organize a beach clean up day
to clear the beach of trash that could
harm wildlife.
• Tell People About the Dangers
of Plastic Bags & Balloons in the
Ocean. Sea turtles may die by mistak-
enly eating balloons or plastic bags that
are floating in the ocean.
• Talk to Your Family and Friends
About Helping Sea Turtles. When
you go home or back to school, tell your
family and friends what you learned
about saving sea turtles and what it was
like to see a nesting sea turtle.
• Reduce the Amount of Chemicals
You Use. Chemicals and fertilizers used
on lawns and gardens can wash into
coastal waters, killing plants and ani-
mals. Find ways to use biodegradable
products and correctly dispose of used
toxic chemicals.
Choosing Digital Fitness
Your new training partner?
Technology is a major force in America's pursuit of fitness.
Mobile apps and wearable gauges offer versatile, convenient ways
to pursue exercise and nutritional goals. For example, you can
digitally:
• Track activity, calories, heart rate, and other fitness goals.
Compete and network with fellow exercisers via social media.
• Take streaming exercise, nutrition, or weight -loss classes.
Synchronize exercise with music on your smartphone.
Burn up the miles with a smartphone cycling app with audio instructions.
Your primary goal in using any technology should be to spur you into action. Will it
motivate you enough to change your health habits? You still need to exercise and eat
nutritiously.
List the features you think will help you the most, such as a food tracker to lose
weight, a diet plan with recipes, or a fitness app with interactive coaching. Check app
stores for ratings and customer reviews. Ask about product accuracy, interface, and ease
of use.
Check that exercise apps meet American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Digital
apps can potentially help improve your health but, they can't replace the knowledge of a
medical, fitness, or nutrition professional.

Codes of the Month
Holiday Lights, Sec. 6-112.
Exempt holiday lights and decorations, erected during the appropriate holiday season,
shall comply with all building and electrical codes. Holiday lights and decorations may
be erected no earlier than four(4) weeks prior to the subject holiday with the exception of
the Christmas/Hanukkah holidays. Christmas/Hanukkah lights and decorations may be
erected no earlier than October 15th. All holiday lights and decorations must be removed
within two(2) weeks following the holidays.
Street Numbers, Sec 6-115 (H) (1) (3) (4)
(1) Generally. Every building in the village shall have its street number so affixed to
the building or the premises upon which the building is located that it is both visible and
legible from the public street.
(3)
Height - Color. All street numbers shall be a minimum of three (3) inches in height
on residential buildings and a minimum of six (6) inches on commercial buildings.
Maximum height of all street numbers shall be eight (8) inches. All street numbers shall
be a sharply contrasting color with the building.
(4) Maintenance. It shall be the duty of the owner of the building to maintain the numbers on
the building in good condition.
Three Good Reasons To...
Keep Sidewalks Clean
• Safety. A moldy or mildewed pavement surface can become a slipping hazard for pedestrians traveling our village
sidewalks. These conditions can grow at a rapid pace without regular maintenance. Pressure washing is an
effective way to eliminate buildup. A mixture of oxygen bleach and water may also be used for removal of stubborn
stains and mold.
• Appearance. Maintaining sidewalks and other paved areas in an attractive, neat condition enhances the
community image overall for residents and visitors alike.
• Village Ordinance. The adjacent property owner is responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks, per the village
code Chapter 15-2 Section 305.15. Accessory Structures. Regular maintenance should include evaluation for and
elimination of discoloration and conditions that may pose a hazard.
