Mayor Manuel called the meeting to order at 9:05 p.m. All members of Council were present.
All members of staff were present.
BUS STOP BENCHES
Discussion took place concerning increasing the number of bus benches or bus shelters in North
Palm Beach. Mr. Knight reported that bus shelters or benches with advertising could be
essentially funded from sources other than the Village. Mr. Knight advised that the Village
would incur the cost for bus shelters or benches without advertising. Mr. Knight reviewed the
estimated cost for bus benches without advertising as follows: $400 for a six-foot recycled
plastic and concrete bench, and up to $1,200 for a vinyl -coated metal bench. Mr. Knight noted
this is not a budgeted item in the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
The Council was in favor of bus benches, with consensus to install benches without advertising
in strategic locations. Discussion ensued on possible locations for the benches. It was suggested
that staff obtain input from property owners in proximity to areas where bus benches are
proposed, prior to installation of any benches.
As the Council representative to the North County Intergovernmental Committee, President Pro
Tem Aubrey will check with Commissioner Marcus on the availability of any County funds for this
project. This item will come back for Council review of bench types at an upcoming Workshop.
EOUITY STUDY COMMISSION
Mr. Knight requested that this item be pulled from the agenda. Mr. Knight reported that the time
allotted by statute for ordinance changes has passed; however, by statute, fees may be raised 5%
each two years.
Mr. Knight advised that staff is reviewing an amendment to the ordinance regarding a reduction
in the tax for commodity brokers.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 9:18 p.m.
