Village buries time capsule
The North Palm Beach Heritage Festival has come full circle
and ended the way it began.
The festival started on April 7 with the unearthing of a time
capsule buried during the Village's 25th anniversary.
The capsule was opened in the Obert room of the library. A
Sears Roebuck catalog from 1982, the North Palm Beach silver
anniversary button, a 1981 "TV Guide," a taped recording of
former town Mayor V. A. Marks regarding the capsule, and a
booklet handed out to residents in June 1961 with the master
plan for recreation, including information given to residents
before they voted on the bond issue to purchase the country
club, were included in the capsule among other things.
On Aug. 12, the time capsule was reburied with a few new
items for posterity inside. Vice Mayor Ed Eissey got Jack Nick-
laus to sign a few golf balls and the plans for the renovated
course. Photos of the current Village officials and the 50th
anniversary committee, a letter from Mr. Fis.sey informing Mrs.
Moore the library would be named for her, a copy of the resolu-
tion dedicating the public safety department to former Chief
John S. Atwater, two 1990 cell phones, a copy of "The„DaVinci
Code" and a copy of "Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone"
were also placed in the capsule to be opened again in 2031.
A reception was held in the Obert Meeting Room in the
,library after the burial.
The Village was incorporated on Aug. 13,1956.
