JUNE 2007
VILLAGE CLERK NEWS
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS: THANK YOU to all our residents, churches, and
local businesses for your generous support of our adopted military unit, the Headquarters and Headquarters
Company (HHC) "Hooligans", 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, (2-27 IN) "Wolfhounds" presently
serving in Hawija District, Kirkuk Province, Iraq. Each month, our wonderful volunteers hold a packing
day to box up your donations for shipment to our soldiers. In addition to boxes of bulk items sent to the
unit, each soldier receives an individual care package. To date, your generosity has allowed us to send five
shipments to our adopted unit — our February shipment also included 23 boxes of stuffed animals from the
children of North Palm Beach for the children of Iraq.
Would you like to help? As part of our ongoing efforts, we're selling Wolfhounds and Hooligans tee
shirts to help raise money to defray the cost of shipping and to purchase items for our troops. We also
want to send a tee shirt to each of the 300 soldiers in our adopted unit as a reminder that North Palm
Beach cares for them. Your $10 donation will purchase a tee shirt to wear or to send to a soldier, or a
large goodie bag: a $5 donation will purchase a small goodie bag. Monetary donations should be made
payable to NPB Support our Troops and mailed to the Village Clerk's office at 501 U.S. Hwy, 1, NPB FL
33408. Donated items are accepted at all Village municipal buildings. A wish list of items is on our web -
site www.village-n_ppb.org. We especially like small or travel -size packages of hand sanitizer, sunscreen,
hand lotion, powdered drink mixes, gold bond foot powder, wipes, chapstick, eye drops, and snack pack-
ages of crackers, cookies, or trail mix. Our soldiers are very appreciative — a Sergeant wrote to say "thank
you for the boxes of goodies that were sent to my unit for the soldiers. Thank you so much for your sup-
port, it truly means more than you'll ever know. God bless you and you're what makes America the great country it is."

Downloadable Audio Books Now Available
Through Our Website
The Library is proud to announce the start of a new digital
media download service — Overdrive. All you need is a valid
library card and internet access from home. You will then be
able to "checkout" audiobooks and ebooks from the Library's
electronic collection. Visit www.nnb-village.org/library and
click on the Digital
Download icon. This will
take you directly to the
Overdrive site where you
can create your online ac-
count, download the neces-
sary media software, make
"book" selections and download them to your computer.
Overdrive is an excellent way to visit your library without ever
leaving home. There is a good selection of adult and young
adult titles in audio and ebook formats. The audio books may
be transferred to your MP3 player, a smartphone, or a personal
digital assistant (PDA). A list of compatible devices can be
found at the Overdrive page. (At the present time Overdrive
does not support the Apple iPod or the Microsoft Zune. There
is a licensing impasse with these players that hopefully will be
resolved some time in the future.)
Items "checked out" on the Overdrive page do not have to be
"returned". When your loan period expires, so does access to
the book. No late books, no fines. No need to run to the li-
brary to get the book into the book return! Please try this new
service and be sure to let us know what you think We look
forward to hearing from you.

SOLID WASTE COLLECTION
HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE: The Village picks up household
garbage MONDAYS, WEDNES-
DAYS, AND FRIDAYS. Please
place garbage by garage door or
side of house, DO NOT place on
the street. Residential garbage
must be in standard 32 to 50 gallon
cans or sealed plastic bags with
each weighing no more than 50
pounds. The safety of our em-
ployee's is always at risk, so we
ask you to be diligent in following
our weight limit as well as having your garbage and trash free
from any sharp or jagged edges, and your cans with the bottom
and sides in tact. All garbage should be ready for pickup no
later than 7:30 a.m. on these days.
TRASH AND VEGETATION COLLECTION: The Village
picks up household trash and vegetation at curbside on TUES-
DAYS AND THURSDAYS. If your trash or vegetation is not
out by 7:30 a.m. of the perspective day, it will not be picked up
until the following scheduled day. Example: (If you nut it out
on Friday. it will not be nicked up until the following Tues-
day). When the opportunity allows, please combine your piles
of trash and vegetation with that of your neighbor on or near a
common property line. Combining the piles will speed up the
collection process and will make the streets look neater. Re-
member to separate trash from vegetation since different trucks
are used to collect each. Household trash includes boxes, furni-
ture, appliances and many other commonly disposed items. The
Village does not nick up construction debris from a contractor or
homeowner's construction projects. Construction debris in-
cludes lumber, drywall, floor tile, concrete, cement blocks, roof-
ing materials, etc. Homeowners and contractors must make their
own arrangements to properly dispose of construction debris.
The Village nicks up vegetation debris cut and placed at
curbside by the resident. Landscape contractors and tree
trimmers are reauired to be licensed and insured for your
protection. They are also reauired to haul their own vegeta-
tion and debris.
Public Works is always working to ensure everything is picked
up on the perspective days. In regards to vegetation, please put
the debris out the day before it is to be picked up and this will
allow us to keep our Village clean and beautiful as it should be.
If you have any questions please call Public Works at 691-3440.
