OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL
OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA

ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. All members of the Council were present. All
members of staff were present except George Baldwin.
PURPOSE OF THE MEETING
The purpose of the Special Workshop was to discuss the Public Safety Substation north of Parker
Bridge.
Chief Earl Johnson, Director of Public Safety, gave a presentation to the Council and the public
on the history of the north substation as well as various potential properties north of the bridge
that might be considered for a permanent station. Included in the presentation were statistics on
response times, call volume, and bridge openings. Five options for consideration were offered.
After hearing comments from various residents of condominiums north of the bridge, the
Council directed that staff aggressively explore all options and pursue contact with all available
properties, including Benjamin School, the Bank property, the Monastery and Florida Power and
Light property.
The Mayor will appoint a committee consisting of President Pro Tem Norris, Village Attorney
George Baldwin, Village Manager Dennis Kelly, and Public Safety Director Earl Johnson. The
committee will meet with any property owner to discuss purchase or long-term lease.
Village Attorney George Baldwin was directed to review requirements regarding the Village's
~,, right to exercise the power of imminent domain.
