Whereas, a substantial rnmiber of people who frequent buildings where
the general public is invited and smoking is permitted may have objections to
inhalation of smoke fran tobacco for reasons of health, personal comfort or
personal preference; and
Whereas, other manbers of the public who frequent the same places and
who smoke tobacco have an equal right to enjoy smoking at these places; and
' Whereas, the Village Council deems it advisable in the interests of
both smokers and non-smokers to take reasonable steps to accantadate the
rights of all such persons in the Village of North Palm Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BF. IT ORDAII~D BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALS4
BEACH, FIARIDA:
Section 1. All persons wlw operate pranises in the Village of North
Palm Beach to which the general public is invited, including areas operated
by government and areas operated by businesses for such purposes as constmrption
of food and drink, entertainment and meetings where the public is generally
required to be seated in an enclosed area, shall take all reasonable steps
available to than to provide areas where persons who object to tobacco smoke
may be separated from persons who smoke. Such operators of premises shall
' further exhibit signs adequately informing the general public of the right
to sit in smoking or non-smoking areas so that smokers and non-smokers alike
may make the decision as to their seating arrangements while on the pranises.
Section 2. The Village Council believes that an Ordinance for the
regulation of smoking will be better enforced by cooperation between the
operators of premises where the public is invited to sit, persons who smoke
and persons who object to being anywhere where smoking is permitted. It is
' the express intent of the Village Council, however, that operators of premises
to which the public are invited and members of the general public alike, should
take cognizance of the intent of this Ordinance and take all reasonable steps
to accanplish its purpose.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage.
A copy of this Orduiance shall be distributed to all establishments where food
and drink are served carcnercially in the Village of North Palm Beach.
